Team information

Volunteers need one or more of the following skills: using the Internet in education, network troubleshooting, computer repair, training, website development, appropriate recycling of electronic waste, or Linux LTSP thin-client lab installation.  It will be helpful if volunteers are able to speak Spanish.

Some of the eCorps Nicaragua team will be from the Centers of New Horizons Computer Learning Centers.

Sites

The following WCE Partners will receive a shipment of 200 Pentium 4 and Pentium 5 desktops from WCE Chicago.  The computers are preloaded with Spanish versions of Ubuntu operating system and Libre/Office and educational materials. The computers leave Chicago on the 13th of December and arrive in Managua in January.  This shipment is financially Sponsored by New Horizons Computer Learning Centers.  Each group will install their computers prior to the eCorps Nicaragua team arriving.

What to expect

The trip will begin with two days of rest, site-seeing and orientation at New Horizons Computer Learning Center of Nicaragua.  After orientation, the group will meet with representatives of interested groups and then visit schools that have recently received computers from World Computer Exchange.  On one or two of the days in the second week, the team will provide basic teacher and tech training at New Horizons.
