Opening Doors to Digital Access with Jou Nouvo in Bon Repos, Haiti

In Bon Repos, Haiti, access to technology remains extremely limited. Many children and families do not have electricity at home, and owning a computer or accessing the internet is often out of reach. These barriers make it difficult for students to keep up with schoolwork and for community organizations to offer engaging, technology-supported programs.

Jou Nouvo, a community-based organization serving the Bon Repos community, is dedicated to helping families reach independence and long-term improvement through education and economic empowerment, while honoring the spirit of Haitian culture. Their programs support children, youth, and adults with a focus on building sustainable growth and opportunity within the community.

Through World Computer Exchange, Jou Nouvo was able to acquire 20 laptops for use at their community center. These computers are now shared by staff and program participants, providing consistent access to technology in a space where it was previously unavailable.

For many participants, this is their first opportunity to use a computer. Students now come to the center to learn basic computer skills, research information online, complete homework individually or in groups, and connect virtually with Jou Nouvo’s supporters abroad. What had been a long-term goal for the organization has finally become a reality.

Before gaining access to these laptops, staff relied heavily on handwritten materials, and planning interactive or research-based activities was nearly impossible. With reliable technology now in place, Jou Nouvo has been able to strengthen its programming and expand learning opportunities.

Looking ahead, Jou Nouvo hopes to grow its computer lab by adding more laptops and introducing tablets to serve even more young people. This partnership with World Computer Exchange is helping open doors to education, connection, and long-term community impact in Bon Repos.
