Overview
WCE’s main purpose is to serve youth in developing countries. Ironically, we sometimes achieve that goal by first serving youth in the communities where our USA Chapters are located.
Goals
We hope to help high school students develop technology and leadership skills through work in our Chapters and in our school Refurbishing Clubs.
Our Work
We have piloted Refurbishing Clubs at high schools near WCE Chapters in Atlanta, Boston, Baltimore-Washington, Chicago, Palo Alto, and Puerto Rico. Students in these clubs collect and refurbish used computers, learning valuable technology and leadership skills.
Our two Refurbishing Clubs at a school and Boys and Girls Club in Puerto Rico are suspended due to the pandemic.
Future Plans
In July 2020, WCE received a $25,000 grant to develop the Youth Skills project around our Boston Chapter. This will include three Refurbishing Clubs and one Inspire Girls club. This work will also help us formalize the way youth are recruited, trained, involved, and recognized in all of our USA Chapters.
